BUFFALOS
A Soldier. A War. A Choice.
The Buffalo Soldiers—a regiment of Black cavalrymen riding into the untamed West—are caught between two warring worlds. For Alexander Johnson, a former slave turned soldier, every battle is a fight not just for his country, but for his place in it.
Regiments of Cavalry including the 9th and 10th are sent to combat those Native American tribes that have not abided by the rules imposed on their nations; including the last, and easternmost Cheyenne.
In the wide wild of the Nebraska plains, Johnson rides into a mysterious country toward an unknown enemy. In intense battles he finds himself caught between a military that treats him as expendable, and a foe that respects him as a warrior. That look of respect across a blood-soaked grassland leads Johnson to make a choice to abandon his past and embrace the “savages” he was sent to eradicate.
Set following the last battle of the Civil War and the violent clashes that followed, BUFFALOS is a gripping tale of resilience, sacrifice, and one man’s search for belonging in a nation that refuses to see him as free.
For readers drawn to the raw intensity of war and the quiet struggles that shape a man’s soul.
